Inspiration for this cowrie collection came from the 1970s, specifically the hair. Recently, I wanted to pay homage to the cornrows, cowries and beads that were used to adorn heads and wear them myself. However, I cannot cornrow my own hair...yet! Instead, I took those elements and transformed them into something I can do right now - jewelry. Instead of cowrie shells, this design features a painted shale pendant that compliments the bold and bright colors of the rubber disks.
Features: Multi-color rubber disks, painted shale pendants, sterling silver ear wires. These earrings measure one and three quarter inches (1 3/4”), excluding hook, and weigh only .14 ounces each! They are handmade in house and due to the nature of the natural shale used, pendants may be slightly different in shape and size.
